JAN 04 2010 – “WORLD BRAILLE DAY”

Commemorating the birth of Louis Braille on Jan 4 1809, the inventor of Braille script, the World celebrates Jan 4 as ” WORLD BRAILLE DAY “. For the first time, VTSeva and JET have organized a walkathon in a grand scale in India and Australia on Jan 4 2008, to bring awareness of the blind people under the guidance of HH Sri Swamiji.

JET Australia Foundation and VTSeva Sydney Chapter organised a gathering on 3rd January 2010 at the reserve closer to 5, Chetwyn Place, Wentworthville NSW, to observe the International Braille Day (falling on 4th January 2010)
The volunteers gathered around 4.30 PM. Young volunteers Siddharth Dharmabulla prepared the message to mark the Braille Day and was readout by Sakketh Dharmabulla & Aniita Vytheeswaran.
Aniita and Siddharth organised a volunteer scratchy game to raise funds and $106.00 was raised on the day.
The day was concluded with sumptuous lunch.

VTSeva Melbourne: By Prakash

On January 3rd, VTSeva and JET Melbourne organised a walkathon at Treasury Gardens to create awareness about blind people.
Sriman Srinath and Sriman Chary managed to get permission from the Melbourne city council for organizing this walkathon.
Though it was drizzling all the members participated for this noble cause. It was heartening to see 8 year old Ch.Sowmya and 9 year old Ch.Ramya also participated in the walkathon.The event started exactly at 10.00 am with a brief talk by Sriman Srinath. He explained about the importance of Braile Day and also presented various activities run by Sri Swamiji for the visually challenged. All the participants apart from contributing for the cause bought the ‘Braile Day T-shirt’.
Sriman Chary and Smt. Ramasri came forward to sponsor one visually challenged child.
Later a quiz was conducted by Smt. Manjulatha and Ch. Srikar on Louis Braille and all the winners were presented with gifts.
The event concluded with some light refreshments organized by Sriman Kotha Srinivas Rao.
