Earth Day in Vijayawada April 2010

Earth day was grandly celebrated in Vijayawada- West Division H.B. Colony With the Mangalasasanams of Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji.

Plant saplings have been distributed by Krishna District Collector, Sriman Piyushkumar, Mayor Smt. Ratnabindu, West Constituency MLA Sriman Vellampalli Srinivas, 28th Division Corporator Smt. Patti Nageshwararao. We distributed about 200 saplings in each home together. Smt. Patti Nageshwararao has helped us by giving us the plants from the corporation. Vikasatarangini Kaikaluru President CH Hemalatha, colony residents Arunakumari, Jaya, Sai, Ravi offered their services and successfully conducted this program.

Phoenix – Event Details

earthdayphxWe have organised Earth Day on Sunday the 20th April in the Melbourne Central Business District. We were 5 people and distributed 250 Earth Day Flyers with the tips to save our Mother Earth.

Event Celebration Details:

More than 45 people participated in this event.drawing2Srimaan Ram Mohan gave the presentation on Earth Day and the steps to be followed to protect our mother Earth from all sorts of damage.

Log books have been distributed to all participants which shows a set of actions to be followed to reduce “carbon footprint” and improve on the items upon inspection regularly.

Children of different ages actively participated in the drawing competition. “Environmental Awareness” was the topic given to children .

Children below 5 years participated in colouring pictures and above 5 years used their creativity and drawn very good pictures on Environmental awareness.

Quiz competition was conducted for adults. Participants conveyed their views on environmental protection in the table topic discussion.

Event Celebration Details:

The DFW Vikasatarinigini Seva volunteers joined hands with Oak Cliff Earth Day organizers and earthdaydfwparticipated in the event on April 20, 2008.

We put up a stall to promote awareness of the environment protection and the service activities of our organization in general.

In the stall, we exhibited the information on VT Seva, Prajna, and also messages written by our own Prahaladas and Andals of DFW Prajna center.

The City of Dallas Mayor Mr. Tom Leppert graced the event and personally visited our booth. The Oak Cliff Earth Day organizers had given us an opportunity to share our message with the general public, and our children had recited

One of the searthdaydfwdrawingtudents further explained the meaning and essence of the slokam emphasizing on Realizing the value of mother Earth and Responding to her and how our Vedic tradition salutes to Mother Earth.

The Earth is mother of all irrespective of nationality, race, religion and any other discrimination. Animals and Plants are also the children of mother earth. When we wake up in the morning, we realize the essence of loving and caring for mother earth. We then respond, by practicing it through out the day. We live in harmony with other beings on Earth by celebrating and protecting her.

New Jersey – Event Details

Venue: Plainsboro Preserve

Event Celebration Details:

As part of the Earth Day 2008, Jeeyar Educational Trust New Jersey / New York performed the cleanupearthdaynj activity in Plainsboro Preserve.  The park authorities gave us a 3-mile track for cleaning.  The task includes the raking of leaves to clear the path, setting the logs in some areas to mark the path, cleanup the tree trunks, and pickup any garbage along the way.

More than 60 volunteers participated in this event.  JET NJ youth coordinator Divyasri Ramireddygari spread the message in the local school, and ten students from the Environmental Club at West-WindsorHigh School North also joined in this activity.

earthdaynjclean  The volunteers were split into two groups and started on both ends of the 3-mile loop.  Three hours later, both teams met in the middle completing the task.

All the volunteers young and old performed the task with great enthusiasm.

At the end, everybody had a great satisfaction of complishing something right.

Thanks to Sriman Ramdev Regulapati for obtaining the permission from the local city council office and arranging the outdoor event.  Sriman Ramdev explained the importance of keeping our Mother Earth clean and simple steps one could take in our daily lives.  Sriman Sarma Allakki conveyed the message from Sri Swamiji and encouraged everybody to change the life style to protect the environment.  He thanked the volunteers for participating in this noble task, and thanked the park authorities for giving us this opportunity to serve.

Houston, Texas – Event Details

Event Celebration Details:

On April 20th, Jeeyar Educational Trust – Houston Chapter celebrated Earth Day at Houston JET Vedic Center. Sriman Hanuman Swamy, Sriman Anil Swamy, along with Sriman Surendar Swamy (from JET-New Jersey) recited few Vedic hymns called ‘Bhu Stuthi’ in praise of Mother Earth.

Prajna teachers explained the importance of Earth Day and students and their parents watched the power point presentation preparted by JET & VTSeva that gave specific steps to reduce our human toll on the environment.

Then, all gathered together to plant trees on the premesis.  The trees were obtained from Trees forHouston, a local nonprofit organization, which was also celebrating Earth Day.  A garden plot was prepared next to the Vedic Learning Center and many flowering plants and tulasi were planted by children and adults.

All the participants left with a greater sense of respect for and responsibility toward to our Mother Earth.

California – Event Details

Venue: Whole Foods Market, Cupertino, CA

Jet California’s first public Earth Day Event took place on 4/12/2008 in Cupertino,earthdaycal as part of the Green, Local & Organic Vendor Fair organized by Whole Foods Market. There were around 20 booths belonging to various food companies and a few organizations presenting environmental ideas related to Solar Energy, Tree plantation, Compost making etc. More than 100 visitors attended the Jet California booth with Everyday Earth day theme and around 60 of them enthusiastically participated in the Earth day Quiz. Winners walked away with a plant or an energy efficient light bulb. People liked earth day cartoons, PG&E book-lets, the information related to the environment and of course, the nuts and dry fruits.

Earth day quiz conducted with the participation of around 25 people. Importance of Earthday was explained and Prajna students participated in planting potted flowers. This event was celebrated at Cupertino as well as at Ardenwood in Fremont, CA.

Venue: Evergreen, San Jose, CA

Earthaday was celebrated on 27th evening by Prajna kids. All the parents and kids participated in the quiz with enthusiasm and appreciated the Log Book.
